'Legally Blonde' Wows Lord Mayor

The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Colin Ross was treated to a high energy performance of ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’ at Silverdale School on Wednesday 5 July.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress were in the audience for the second night of the four-night run that involved 117 students from the school who were acting, singing, dancing, designing, playing in the band and working backstage.

The school casts two separate groups of leading roles, performing two shows apiece, in order to satisfy the huge desire for involvement. This enables younger students to experience the thrill of a leading role – one of the leads who gave a stellar performance for the Lord Mayor is a Year 7 student!

Mrs Jo Moore, Silverdale’s Head of Performing Arts said: "We are all so proud of our students’ dedication, hard work and the confidence they developed through the months of preparation for the show. They are a talented bunch and to see that talent shine bright during the four performances was inspiring.

"I echo comments made by the Lord Mayor when he praised our students for their energy and highlighted how important the arts are to our young people’s development. Students themselves value the opportunity offered by shows such as this to build their confidence, form connections with new people and make amazing memories."

Ticket sales of £6,900 will enable more Silverdale students to experience the joy and camaraderie of involvement in performances such as this. In addition, tuck shop sales of £913 will be donated to Cavendish Cancer Care.
